May Exit Offering: Pearce Food Cupboard

This weekend, Holy Communion will be served. And, as is our tradition, we receive an Exit Offering following services of Communion to benefit a mission organization or ministry. The Exit Offering on May 4 & 5 will go to our Food Cupboard. Jim Heeks, our Food Service Director, oversees this ministry, and Lesley Eich and Lois Favro manage the Food Cupboard and coordinate volunteers. Over the past year, our Food Cupboard has served 219 families, feeding a total of 723 people. We thank everyone who helps donate food and their time to help make this happen.
Last summer, our Food Cupboard was moved from a small room in the Pearce 4 Kids area to a much larger, more accessible room in the lower education wing. This new location has allowed us to use a client-choice model. Clients are escorted to the Food Cupboard where they can shop for the items they need, within the guidelines provided. This gives clients more options and provides a sense of dignity as they are involved in the process.
If you’d like to donate items, check the NEUs, under “Service,” to see what is needed to stock our cupboard—the list changes regularly. Our current needs are peas, soup, tuna, and toilet paper. Donations can be left in the shopping cart in the main lobby. Financial donations are also accepted and used to purchase items and materials to sustain our cupboard.
