Elsewhere in Peru

We live and base our work in Tarma, but there are at least 12 other Free Methodist churches presently in Peru.  With much joy we share with you a couple of their stories.

In Jesus,
Becky, J.R., Marissa, and Alena Crouse

Pueblo Nuevo Free Methodist Church, Yanamayo

This rural area is where the baptisms took place last month.  The church celebrated their 13th anniversary this month.  After they lost their previous pastor, Pastor Miguel agreed to take on their congregation and now faithfully goes every Thursday evening to hold services.  They are presently making plans to build a church building on property they have purchased.  A VISA team is preparing to come put the roof on the building in January.

Yanamayo is a key ministry area for J.R.  Several church members who are guinea pig producers live in this area.  J.R. facilitated their participation in a seminar on raising guinea pigs for the export market.  They were very excited to start discussing and planning for this future possibility.

Free Methodist Church, Tacna

This church, almost on the Chile border, was actually the first Free Methodist church in Peru.  It was planted through efforts of the Chilean Free Methodist church.  In mid-May a VISA team from the States came to finish the work on their church building.  Pastor Miguel was able to attend the dedication service on Mother’s Day.  After his message 6 adults came forward to give their lives to Jesus Christ.  Please pray for Pastora Geovanna and VISA missionary Tanya Metzler as they work with this congregation that is mostly made up of youth.  Pray that God would use this new building to grow the church and meet the needs of the people in their community.

Mother's Day

J.R. and the girls treated me to a lovely dinner at the local tourist hotel for Mother’s Day.  Marissa also danced wonderfully as part of her school’s Mother’s Day program.

Harvesting Gladiolas

J.R. was thrilled to spend a day high on a mountain slope with a family from Yanamayo harvesting fresh gladiolas they produce for weekly sale.

SHALOM

As mentioned above, we’re in the process of forming an organization called SHALOM.  This organization will serve as the holistic ministry arm of the Peru Free Methodist Church.  Our first program (called LYDIA), which addresses the need to boost family economies, will facilitate business creation and training.  A few months ago we reported on the new opportunities to export guinea pigs.  Another opportunity is to export the flavorful coffee produced by a Free Methodist lady pastor and her family.  LYDIA is seeking to build a fund that can be used as capital for loaning to qualified individuals who seek to begin or enhance their small business.  The income will not only help struggling families, but it will also generate the finances for continued church growth.  Thank you for considering giving a financial gift for Program LYDIA – Peru!
